Sri Lankan captain, Angelo Mathews, will be returning home after his ankle was badly hurt during the second Twenty20 International against South Africa.
Mathews twisted his ankle during a stellar performance on Sunday, which ended with Sri Lanka beating the home team by three wickets at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Before injuring himself, Mathews managed to score two sixes and an unbeaten 54 by the end of the match.
It was an important win for Sri Lanka, as they lost the Test Series to South Africa 3-0.
The Sri Lankan cricket board said that they had granted Mathews permission to return home to recover from his injury, and that Dinesh Chandimal will captain the team in his absence.
Sri Lanka will take on the Proteas in the third and final Twenty20 match on Wednesday in Cape Town, after which they will play five more One Day Internationals against South Africa.
The ODI test will conclude on February 10th.
