Zooey Deschanel Confirms Second Pregnancy

Our favourite quirky girl, Zooey Deschanel, has confirmed that she is expecting her second baby with husband, Jacob Pechenik.

The couple made the announcement this week and, surprisingly, made another announcement that fans were certainly not aware of!

Zooey and Jacob revealed that they got married in secret in August of 2015. That’s close to two years of keeping a secret!

The couple are already parents to 18-month-old, Elsie Otter, who was born in July 2015.

Speaking about baby number two on Jimmy Kimmel, Zooey said that the hardest part about being pregnant, is the restrictions on food. She said that there are so many things you can’t have as a pregnant woman, that it drove her insane.

“You can’t eat so many things when you’re pregnant! If I was vegan, I’d just be like … ohhh,” she told Kimmel.

Ironically enough, Zooey used to be a vegan. However, her allergies to eggs, dairy, wheat gluten and other foods made it hard to maintain a vegan diet and stay healthy.

She continued, telling Kimmel that she really hates not being able to have coffee or wine – and let’s be honest, what woman doesn’t crave coffee or wine!?

“You can’t have sushi. You can’t have cheese that tastes good. You can have a little bit [of coffee], but I would have, like, four cups a day. And now I can have a half cup, which is a joke! It’s a total joke!…you can’t have alcohol. I miss that, I like wine,” she said.

Congratulations, Zooey and Jacob!

Tanzania Mine Collapse Traps 13

A Chinese-owned gold mine collapsed suddenly today in a remote area of Tanzania, trapping approximately 13 people underground.

According to Mponjoli Mwabulambo, a local police commander, a search team from the region gathered this morning to try to rescue any survivors but “the team hasn’t managed to pull out a body”.

Apparently a massive mound of earth collapsed unexpectedly in the mine in Nyarugusu village. The mine is owned by a Chinese company called RZP.  Approximately 13 workers, including a Chinese national, are currently buried inside.
No further details regarding the cause of the collapse, nor the state of those buried inside, have been released.

Evra Signs With Marseille

Veteran defender, Patrice Evra, has signed a contract with French football club, Marseille, after he was released from his contract with Italian club, Juventus.

The former Manchester United player was released from his contract with Juventus six months early, and has subsequently signed a new, 18-month contract with Marseille.

Evra’s transfer from Juventus to Marseille was a free transfer.

Evra has long since been a star player at both club and international levels. The French international has represented his country on 81 occasions, and has a long list of club achievements under his belt, including five English Premier League wins with former club, Manchester United.

Many critics have pondered whether or not Evra will retire from football soon, considering his age – he is 35 years old.

However, Evra has showed no signs of stopping, and is very much still a sought-after player. Earlier in the month, he was linked with a possible return to United.

Rémy Cabella, Marseille’s midfielder, said that he is excited about Evra joining the team, and that his age does not affect his football skills.

“I know Evra well from the French team, he’s a captain who binds the group together and talks a lot so it would be good for us and the club if he comes, he’s a great player…His age is irrelevant…This weekend we will play Montpellier and they have my friend Hilton who is 39. He still does a hell of a job and is having a great season,” he said.

It seems that Evra also left Juventus on good terms, as coach, Massimiliano Allegri, had nothing but praise for him.

“He had a great two and a half seasons with us.”

He continued, saying that Evra had discussed the transfer to Marseille with the management, and that they had agreed to let him go:

“But we talked and we came to this decision. I have only positive things to say about Evra…He played for 10 years at Manchester United, he came to Juventus and was a very important player for us.”

Turn Your Cheap Meal into a Gourmet Dish

We all know that January is a tough month, no matter where you find yourself or what you do for a living. Unless you are lucky enough to have some funds stashed away, January will inevitably become ‘Janu-worry’.

The festive season has come and gone, and now you find yourself eating 2-minute noodles and cereal for supper.

And while there is nothing wrong with a delicious bowl of 2-minute noodles, there are cheap and easy ways to tweak these meals ever so slightly in order to make them a little more ‘gourmet’.

Here are two, super easy ways in which you can turn a cheap, everyday meal into a gourmet dish that’ll leave you wanting more.

Italian 2-Minute Noodles with Tomato Cream Sauce

2 packets of 2-minute noodles (any flavour you like)
1 tin of diced tomatoes in tomato juice
1 small onion
1 sachet of tomato paste
250 ml cream

Start by making your creamy tomato sauce. In a pan, add the chopped onion and tin of diced tomatoes and stir over a medium heat.

Once the onions have become translucent and the mixture has started boiling, slowly add the cream and stir. Let simmer over a low-medium heat for at least 5 minutes.

Next, cook the 2-minute noodles as you would usually (you can choose to either add the flavouring or not).

Once the noodles are cooked, toss them in the pan with the sauce, and stir well.

Serve in bowls. If you want to add something extra, sprinkle with grated Mozzarella cheese.

Gourmet Grilled Cheese

Bread (of your choice)
Cheese (either Mozzarella, Cheddar or White Cheddar)
1 onion
1 tomato
1 pack of bacon
Fresh Basil leaves

Start by cooking the rashers of bacon. You can use whichever cuts of bacon you like, depending on cost.

Cut the onion into thin rings, and fry in the pan with the bacon.

Butter your slices of bread lightly on both sides. Remove the bacon and onions from the pan and allow to cool.

Cut the tomato into thin slices and put it on the bread slices. Either grate the cheese, or cut into slices, and add it onto the tomatoes on the bread.

Then, add the bacon rashers and onion. Add the fresh basil leaves.

Close the sandwich and fry on either sides in the same pan as the one used for the bacon and onions. Fry until the bread is golden brown on both sides and the cheese has melted.

Serve with a tall glass of water, and you’re good to go!

Pasuwa Resigns as Warriors Coach

Callisto Pasuwa has announced that he has resigned as head coach of the Zimbabwean national football team, the Warriors.

His announcement comes days after the Warriors were knocked out of the 2017 AFCON tournament, after they lost 4-2 to Tunisia on Monday in Gabon.

Speaking to The Herald newspaper, Pasuwa said that following the defeat in Gabon, he believes it is best for him to resign and make way for a new coach.

“Following Zimbabwe’s participation at the African Cup of Nations in Gabon, where we unfortunately failed to go beyond the Group B stage, I think I should step aside and make way for another coach to take over,” he said.

He continued, saying that he hopes the Warriors learn from their defeat at the hands of Tunisia, and that there is a solid foundation for the team to work on for their next international campaign. He also apologised for not making it through to the next round of the AFCON tournament.

“I am sorry we let the nation down in Gabon, but I believe if we can learn and build from this experience, we will do better in the next campaign and like I said, the foundation is there now for the future Warriors to work on,” he concluded.

It is not yet known who will replace Pasuwa as the head coach of the Warriors.

Death Toll in Italy Avalanche Rises to 24

As rescue operations continue in Farindola, Italy, after a deadly avalanche hit the region on January 18th, authorities have confirmed that the death toll has now risen to 24.

The Hotel Rigopiano was completely destroyed after it was hit by the avalanche. Most of the people staying at the hotel at the time were killed by the avalanche. Authorities also confirmed that there are still five people unaccounted for, but that they are presumed dead.

Eleven people survived the avalanche, and miraculously, all four children that were staying at the hotel at the time survived.

The last survivors were pulled from the snow on Saturday, after they were located by rescue workers on Friday. Authorities did not confirm the extent of their injuries, but said that they were all suffering from hypothermia.

The avalanche came after a bout of heavy snow fell in Italy – the heaviest snowfall seen in the area in decades – and a series of earthquakes that rocked the area the very same day.

According to reports, authorities are looking into whether or not the disaster could have been prevented by having better risk-assessment procedures in place. However, Italian Prime Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, has said that people must shy away from blaming someone or some institution for the disaster.

He instead applauded the work of the various rescue teams that have been pulling bodies and survivors from the area for the past week. Two of the rescue workers who were canvassing the area from a helicopter, tragically lost their lives when their helicopter crashed.

“Every possible effort was made to reach the hotel…We are proud of the emergency services who were confronted with absolutely exceptional snowfalls and two of whom gave their lives,” Gentiloni said.

Harry Kane Is Not Leaving Tottenham

Rumours have been doing the rounds that Tottenham’s superstar striker, Harry Kane, may transfer from the English Premier League club to other, high-profile clubs.

However, Kane has set the record straight, saying that he has absolutely no plans of leaving the club.

“It would be stupid to leave now. We’ve got one of the best coaches in the world, maybe the best. We’ll have a new stadium soon. The future is bright [sic],” he recently told reporters.

There have also been rumours that Kane’s fellow teammate, Dele Alli, may be eyeing a transfer to other European clubs. However, Kane said that neither he nor Alli have any plans of leaving Tottenham anytime soon.

“I’d be surprised if any of my team-mates would go now…Something is happening here and we just need to take that last step, which is to win trophies,” he said.

He continued, saying that he believes Tottenham is the right place for 20-year-old Alli, who joined the club in 2015.

“Tottenham is the right place for him, even if many other clubs want him…We’ve got a great future and he is part of it, so there is no reason for him to leave,” Kane said of Alli.

Tottenham is having a stellar season thus far. They are currently third on the log, only one point behind Arsenal and nine points behind leaders, Chelsea.

Tottenham’s next match is on Tuesday, January 31st, against Sunderland.

Beautiful Blueberry Coconut Ice Cream

With summer time in full force, what could be better than a deliciously icy treat to help you cool off?

This homemade ice cream recipe calls for minimal effort and only a small amount of preparation time – and best of all, you don’t even need an ice cream machine to whip up this summery delight!

Before we start, let’s just get some of the stats out of the way.

Prep time: 20-25 mins

Freezing time: 3-4 hours

Servings: 4

Right, now let’s get to it!

This is what you’ll need:

140g caster sugar

125g blueberries

200ml coconut cream

280ml double cream

1 orange

1 lime (optional – if you like a little extra zing!)

1 sprig of mint and extra blueberries for garnish

This is what you’ll need to do:

Begin by finely grating the zest from the orange and squeezing out its juice. If you think your guests will enjoy that extra hint of citrus, then repeat this process with the lime.

Put the juice and zest from the orange (and if you wish, the lime) into a small pan with the sugar,  and heat gradually, stirring to dissolve the sugar.

Once the sugar is dissolved, add the blueberries and simmer for two minutes. You’ll know it is ready when the skins of the berries begin to split.

Pour this marvellous mixture into a bowl and add the coconut cream. Mix well, then leave to cool.

Once the mixture is cool, whip the cream in a separate, large bowl until it just holds its shape – it should form soft peaks when you remove the whisk from the bowl. Gradually stir in the blueberry blend.

Put the bowl into the freezer for around an hour – or until you can feel that the concoction is set approximately 3cm from the sides of the bowl.

Take the bowl out and whisk it all up again! Once it is smooth again, put it back in the freezer for round two. After an hour, repeat the whisking process.

Transfer the frosty treat into an ice cream container (or the equivalent), then cover it and freeze it until firm.

About 30 minutes before you plan to serve the ice cream, place it in the fridge to soften. Then serve with a sprinkling of extra blueberries and the mint sprig.

Et voila!
