Dr. Luke Drags Lady Gaga into Kesha Lawsuit

Lukas “Dr. Luke” Gottwald’s lawyer, Jeffrey Movit, has subpoenaed Lady Gaga, requiring her to submit to a deposition. The subpoena comes as part of the ugly ongoing legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke which began in 2014.

In October of 2014, Kesha sued Dr. Luke for sexual assault and battery, and asked the court to break her contract with the music producer. In 2015 she added Sony Music Entertainment to the suit, claiming that they turned a blind eye to the abuse.

Despite the support of many celebrities, and with general public opinion in her favour, in 2016 Kesha lost her all of her claims against Dr. Luke. She has been forced to remain contracted to his music label, Kemosabe Records, under Sony.

Dr. Luke retaliated back in 2014 by filing a counterclaim against Kesha for defamation and breach of contract.

It is for this suit that Lady Gaga has been subpoenaed. Dr. Luke’s legal team has accused Lady Gaga, a friend and staunch supporter of Kesha, of refusing to cooperate with the lawsuit. She has now been subpoenaed regarding alleged texts that Kesha sent her accusing Dr. Luke of rape and abuse.

According to TMZ, Lady Gaga has already handed over the text messages, but Dr. Luke’s legal team says that they’re “so heavily redacted [that they’re] incomprehensible.”

A representative for Lady Gaga has hit back at Dr. Luke and his legal team, explaining that the texts have been redacted because they address irrelevant “private matters”, and that Lady Gaga has been nothing but cooperative.

It was also said that, “Dr. Luke’s team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga’s role and falsely accusing her of dodging reasonable requests.”

After a five-year hiatus from music, Kesha released a new single and video this month. While she hasn’t had to work with Dr. Luke on her new album, she is still contractually obligated to release her music under his label.

About the ordeal she has experienced, and her new album, Kesha has said, “It’s from our darkest moments that we gain the most strength.”

Russia Seizes US Property in Retaliation over Sanctions

A furious Vladimir Putin, widely regarded as the most powerful man in the world, has given the order to seize two US diplomatic properties in Russia. The two properties in question are a US storage facility and a recreational building outside of the US Embassy in Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has also demanded that the US cut its diplomatic staff in Russia to 455, the same number Russia has in the United States. America has until 1 September to comply with the order.

The orders come in retaliation to an announcement that the US Senate approved sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea on Thursday night. The bill is now on President Donald Trump’s desk for him to either approve, or veto.

The White House announced late Friday night that Trump would sign the bill.

The sanctions are in response to Russia’s suspected tampering in the 2016 US Elections, in favour of Trump, who narrowly won the election, and also to punish Russia for its military aggression in Ukraine and Syria. The sanctions target alleged corrupt officials, human rights abusers and the Russian economy in terms of weapons sales and energy exports.

There’s been wide speculation that Trump would ease the sanctions placed on Russia by the Obama administration. If he signs this bill, however, he would be barred from waiving or easing the sanctions, without the agreement of US Congress.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has accused the US of trying to put itself at an economic advantage, saying, “Despite constant attacks from Washington we have behaved responsibly and reservedly, having ignored obvious provocations thus far. But recent events mean that certain circles in the United States opted for Russophobia and open confrontation with our country.”

Putin weighed in on the matter himself, saying that it is “impossible to tolerate constant boorishness” from the US.

Several European countries, including Germany, are unhappy with the proposed sanctions, because they would allow the US to punish companies working on pipelines for Russia, by limiting their access to US banks.

Speaking of Russia’s retaliation, Russian legislator Aleksei Pushkov, said, “There is a high probability that this will not be the end of it.”

Conte: Eden Hazard is Not Leaving Chelsea

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has insisted that Eden Hazard is not leaving the squad.

The 26-year-old Belgium international has been heavily linked to make a move this transfer window.

Earlier reports suggested he would make a Real Madrid move, but recent rumours suggest that La Liga giants, Barca, are eyeing Hazard as a replacement for Neymar, who is undergoing a medical for Paris Saint-Germain this week.

According to the Daily Mail, Conte has told Barcelona to forget about a Hazard transfer, because it isn’t happening.

The Blues manager said recently about his star winger, “He is very happy to stay with us and to play for Chelsea. I don’ t know anything about this situation.”

Hazard still has three years on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Conte added that he is unsure of when Hazard will be back in the squad, due to a broken ankle, but that he will most likely miss the start of the season.

Hazard has been recovering in London since breaking his ankle playing for the Belgian national team, earlier in the year. Eden has had surgery, and Conte says that he’s “recovering well.”

UN Helicopter Crashes in Mali

A UN helicopter monitoring the violence in Mali has crashed, killing its two German crew members.

According to UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the helicopter was part of a MINUSMA – United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali – peacekeeping mission.

Lacroix said that the helicopter was “was conducting surveillance over Tabankort in the aftermath of violent clashes” when it went down near the city of Gao.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, as the helicopter crew did not issue any distress calls, according to German army Vice Admiral Joachim Georg Ruehle.

The helicopter was monitoring the violence in which “dozens” of pro-government group GATIA were killed by separatists, the Coordination of Movements of Azawad.

Despite both groups signing a 2015 peace deal, the UN says that deadly fighting has increased between them in recent weeks.

According to a foreign security source, several dozen GATIA fighters were killed, dozens more were taken prisoner, and a GATIA base was dismantled.

Northern Mali is often fraught with violence between the two opposing forces, and is a suspected haven for jihadists.

The UN has condemned the renewed fighting, with Said Mahamat Saleh Annadif, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General releasing the following statement: “[If] ceasefire violations persist, they will affect not only the implementation of the Peace Agreement, thus benefiting terrorism, but they will also undermine confidence in the good faith of the signatory movements.”

Trump Dealt Major Healthcare Blow

U.S President Donald Trump has suffered a major setback after being unable to repeal Obamacare.

The beleaguered president has tried and failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act since taking office at the end of last year.

Replacing Obamacare was one of Trump’s key pledge’s in his successful run for the White House.

On Monday, Senator John McCain returned to the senate after suffering health issues and being diagnosed with brain cancer, to vote in support of Trump. McCain voted with 49 other Republican senators on Monday to continue the debate regarding the repeal of Obama’s healthcare legislation.

But in an astonishing turnaround, McCain was one of the Republican senators who voted against Trump in the two repeal votes this week.

On Wednesday, the Senate voted down the bill that would have repealed Obamacare, without a replacement healthcare bill. The vote was 45-55, with seven Republicans voting against the bill, along with all Democrats.

Last night, the Senate sounded the death knell on Trump’s attempts at healthcare overhaul. In a vote to repeal only sections of Obamacare, dubbed a “skinny repeal”, the Senate narrowly voted against Trump, with three Republicans voting with the Democrats to kill the repeal.

The president has lashed out against those in his party who voted against him. On Wednesday the Trump administration threatened to isolate Alaska after Senator Lisa Murkowski voted to save Obamacare, in both votes.

Using one of his favourite mediums of communication, Trump posted on Twitter: “3 Republicans and 48 Democrats let the American people down. As I said from the beginning, let Obamacare implode, then deal. Watch!”

According to experts, an estimated 20 million people would lose their health insurance if Obamacare were to be repealed.

Senator John McCain, when asked why he voted against the repeal, has said, “I thought it was the right thing to do.”

Rick Ross Apologises for Sexist Remarks

Rick Ross has apologised for remarks he recently made about his policy to not hire female rappers.

The rapper told ‘The Breakfast Club’ during a radio interview on Monday that he hasn’t signed any female rappers to his label, Maybach Music Group, because he’s scared he would become romantically involved with them.

He went on to say that dating a woman signed to his label would end up being bad for the business.

Ross faced almost immediate backlash for his comments. Many fans pointed out over social media that his comments objectified women, gave off a sense of entitlement, and were very unprofessional.

Ross has since backtracked from his words. In a statement on Facebook, the 41-year-old music mogul has called his previous comments “insensitive” and “a mistake [he] regrets”.

He said, “My entire empire’s backbone is led by 2 of the strongest people I know and they happen to be women, my mother and sister. The operations wouldn’t run without them and I have the highest regard and respect for women in this industry. I have a daughter myself, my most cherished gift in the world.”

Rick Ross is no stranger to controversy. In 2013, the rapper came under fire for lyrics in his guest verse on the track U.O.E.N.O. The lyrics in question appear to condone and even praise date rape, as Ross raps about drugging a woman before taking her home.

While Ross apologised, claiming that the lyrics had been misinterpreted, Reebok dropped his sponsorship deal, claiming that “[Ross] has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse”.

Cazorla Unsure of Arsenal Return Date

In an announcement sure to worry Arsenal fans, Santi Cazorla has admitted that he is “far” from returning to the squad.

The Spanish international has been unable to play since October last year after an injury to his Achilles tendon. He suffered the injury during a match against Ludogorets in the 2016 Champions League.

Cazorla has since undergone eight surgeries on his heel, and spent a significant amount of time unable to walk.

Cazorla explained the need for so many surgeries: “The problem that I have had up until now is that the doctors didn’t know what problem I had. They operated and operated and the wound kept opening. And then the doctor found the bacteria, I had to go in for more surgeries, but at least we knew what it was. Now I have to slowly come back to training but the danger of the bacteria has passed.”

The 32-year-old midfielder doesn’t know when he will be able to play again, but he has vowed to return to The Gunners at his “previous level” eventually.

Cazorla has also spoken out about the difficulty and loneliness he has experienced since being injured, and the emotional toll it’s taken to be forced to watch from the sidelines.

The Spaniard has denied reports that he will never play again, and says that he is currently back in the gym, and building up his fitness.

Egypt to Set Up New Council to Combat Terrorism

The Egyptian government has announced that they are setting up a new ‘national council’ to combat terrorism in the country.

Today, in a presidential decree, the government said that the council will fight to combat terrorism and extremism in the country by adopting a ‘global national strategy.’

Egypt’s Christian minority has been the target of several terrorist attacks by Islamic extremists over the past year. Islamic State (IS) militants have been occupying Egypt’s Sinai province in the north of the country ever since former president, Mohammed Morsi, was forced from his position by the military.

Morsi was succeeded by current president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who has promised to increase efforts in fighting the ‘war against terrorism’.

Thousands of Coptic Christians have been killed by the IS militants over the past four years. The government’s security forces have also been regular targets.

Besides attacks from groups linked to IS, Egypt has also been fighting against jihadist splinter groups. The government believes that these groups are linked to the now outlawed Muslim Brotherhood – a group that Former President Morsi was a part of.

The new national council will be chaired by el-Sisi, and will include a number of prominent political, religious and military figures.

The Egyptian prime minister, parliament speaker, and a handful of other ministers will be a part of the council, alongside the Grand Sheikh of al-Azhar, the highest Sunni religious authority in Egypt.

The government said that one of the primary tasks of the council will be to develop job opportunities in the areas that have been hit the hardest by extremism. They believe that by giving people legitimate jobs, they can steer them away from joining extremist groups, such as the Islamic State.

Egypt has also been in talks with the United States and US president, Donald Trump, on ways to fight terrorism in the country. The US has promised to increase their military funding to Egypt in order to help their cause.

Southgate: Rooney May Return to National Squad

England manager, Gareth Southgate, has said that veteran English footballer, Wayne Rooney, may return to the English national squad following his move to Everton.

Rooney, who is England’s all-time top goal scorer, has not played for the national team since November of last year.

In June of this year, the 31-year-old striker was excluded from the English squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Scotland as well as a friendly against France.

At the time, Southgate said that Rooney was not on top form, and that other strikers were performing better.

However, speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Southgate changed his tune, saying that the door to the national squad is open for Rooney.

“The great thing for Rooney is that he will probably be playing more regular football and so it’s as simple as that…In the league we only have 70 English players, and so we certainly aren’t ruling anybody out [sic],” Southgate said.

Rooney joined Everton earlier this month on a free transfer from Manchester United after being with the Red Devils for 13 years.

His new manager at Everton, Ronald Koeman, has also backed him for a return to the English national squad.

“First of all, if you play really good football and produce great performances for your club it is possible that he will come back to the national team…But it always starts with the club, his performances for the club and then it’s reasonable that he will go back to the national team [sic],” Koeman said.

England’s next match is against Malta in a World Cup qualifier. It remains to be seen whether or not Southgate will include Rooney in the squad.

Angelina Jolie Opens Up about New Single Life

This week, Angelina Jolie sat down for her first in-depth interview since her split from Brad Pitt. Speaking to Vanity Fair magazine, she opened up about what her life is like as a newly single woman.

Angelina spoke candidly about her goals in life, revealing that her main priority these days is to create a loving home for her six children. She said that while she’s still trying to get the hang of being a ‘domestic goddess’, her kids have been encouraging her all the way.

She also opened up about her childhood, and the affect her parents’ split had on her. Angelina has always been open about the fact that she does not have the best relationship with her father, Jon Voight. She did, however, say that the two of them are working on re-building their father-daughter relationship.

“I was very worried about my mother, growing up…I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is [sic],” she said.

Angelina has often praised her mother for the way in which she raised her and her brother, and has said that her mother’s death due to cancer had a major impact on her life.

In 2013, Angelina underwent a preventative double mastectomy, in an effort to lower her chances of developing breast cancer. She did this after finding out that carries the faulty gene, known as BRCA1, which increased her risk of developing breast cancer to approximately 87%.

Two years later, in 2015, she revealed that she had both her ovaries and her fallopian tubes removed as a preventative measure against ovarian cancer.

She revealed in the Vanity Fair interview that she had no qualms about the surgery.

“I went into the actual surgery happy as they come…I was skipping. Because at that point it was just preventative,” she said.

Angelina emphasised again that her main focus is her children, and that she never wants them to feel stressed or traumatised.
