The family of famed Nigerian actress, Moji Olaiya, who passed away recently, has finally addressed her cause of death.
Moji Olaiya passed away almost a month ago, on 17 May while in Canada, a mere two months after giving birth to her second child, a baby girl. She was 42 years old.
Shortly after her death, rumours that she was poisoned by ‘a friend’ started doing the rounds on Nigerian social media.
However, Olaiya’s family has put those rumours to bed. Yesterday Olaiya’s brother, Femi Olaiya, released the following statement:
“We wish to use this opportunity to debunk claims circulating on social media that a friend in Canada poisoned Moji. An autopsy was conducted; the autopsy reports indicated that our dear sister died of a different cause that can be termed natural medical cause [sic].”
While the family did not specify the cause of Moji’s death, some reports have mentioned cardiac arrest as a possible cause.
Olaiya had a successful acting career in Nigeria, and starred in both English and Yoruba films.
In 2003, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for and won Best New Actress at the Reel Awards.

Nigerian rapper, Eva Alordiah, has announced that she has called it quits with her fiancé of over a year, Caesar Ume-Ezeoke.
In a post on her official Instagram account, Alordiah announced that she is single again and that the feeling of being alone is something she is used to.
“Single Again and not quite sure I was ready for the other side. Feels so familiar, this Single life, yet so new…My friends always used to Tease me and tell me I love ‘Love’. I have finally accepted this is True. I do Love Love [sic],” she captioned a photo of a pitch black square.
Alordiah and Ume-Ezeoke got engaged after just one month of dating in January of last year.
Their engagement was as extravagant as the couple themselves. Ume-Ezeoke proposed to the ‘Down Low’ singer live on stage at the Headies Awards.
Eva also said in her Instagram post that she feels off-balance and pondered whether or not her break-up was for the best.
“My head feels wobbly. I write a great deal don’t I? Maybe this happened so I can find a way to get back in my head and stroke [my] sleeping muse [sic],” she wrote.
Eva released her second mixtape, ‘Because You Been Waiting’ in March of last year and has since been working on new music.
