SA Model Wants Grace Mugabe Arrested

Gabriella Engels is pushing to have Grace Mugabe handed over to South African authorities for prosecution.

The 20-year-old South African model alleges that Zimbabwe’s former first lady assaulted her in August last year.

According to Engels, Mugabe attacked her with an electrical cord after finding her in a hotel room at the Capital 20 West in Sandton being rented by Mugabe’s sons, Chatunga and Robert Mugabe, Jr.

Pictures of Engels’s injuries, including a deep cut to her forehead, were widely circulated on social media last year, leading to outrage and calls for Mugabe’s arrest.

Engels laid charges against Mugabe, but the former first lady avoided arrest and prosecution after the South African government granted her diplomatic immunity.

Last week, new Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that Grace Mugabe is no longer protected by diplomatic immunity.

Engels’s mother, Debbie Engels, said that in light of these developments, her family has renewed their attempts to secure justice and are appealing to Mnangagwa to “do the right thing”.

However, it’s unclear whether this appeal will have much success. Mnangagwa said that although his government had not granted immunity to Robert Mugabe and his wife, his government would “do everything possible to make sure the family lives in peace, undisturbed”.

Search Resumes for Flight MH370

Malaysia has kicked off a new search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 four years after it disappeared, according to its civil aviation department.

In one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries, the aircraft departed from Kuala Lumpur on 8 March 2014 with 239 people on board, and never reached Beijing.

The search vessel, the Seabed Constructor, set off from Durban, South Africa, on 3 January 2018 and has now reached the remote spot in the Indian Ocean where Australian scientists believe the plane went down.

The Seabed Constructor has around 90 days of moderate weather and will need to stop searching by the end of April.

Australia, Malaysia and China called off their previous two-year search for the plane a year ago, after finding nothing in a 120 000-square-kilometre underwater search zone.

In 2015, the remains of a wing flap, which was found on Reunion Island, located off the coast of east Africa, was positively identified as belonging to the missing Malaysian Airways flight.

Malaysian authorities have prioritised recovering the plane’s black box and cockpit voice recorder, but experts are divided on whether these items will provide any useful information.

Even if the black box is retrieved and still functioning after years at the bottom of the ocean, the cockpit voice recorder operates on a loop and much of the flight recording would most likely have been erased.

It is unclear if the mystery surrounding the doomed flight and those on board will ever be solved.

Conte Frustrated with Spending Power

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has claimed that Chelsea cannot compete with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in terms of spending power.

The Premier League champions had wanted to sign Alexis Sanchez, but lost out after it became clear that the forward’s wage demands and agent fees would be totally out of their budget.

Manchester United, who made the most money of any sports club in the world last year, finalised the deal for Sanchez on Monday.

The 48-year-old Italian manager said that the purchasing power the two Manchester clubs have is unmatchable by any other team.

Conte said: “These two clubs can become seriously dangerous for other teams in the world.”

Chelsea is still hopeful of signing Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri from Roma for an initial £44 million outlay, but Manchester City is also interested.

Conte added that without being able to compete financially with the top clubs, his team will have to find success through hard work instead.

Transformers Leads 2018 Razzies

Nominations for the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards have been announced, and “Transformers: The Last Knight” is leading the pack, with nine nods.

The tongue-in-cheek Razzie Awards honour the worst films in Hollywood, and were originally created in 1980 to make fun of the sheer number of awards shows during awards season.

“Fifty Shades Darker” received eight nominations, while “The Mummy” got seven nods.

Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, and Kim Basinger were among the stars given the dubious honour of being nominated for their performances.

2018 Fashion Trends

Now that the Spring/Summer 2018 fashion shows have wrapped up, the most popular and stylish fashion trends for the year so far have been set.

Here are the 2018 fashion trends that you can start wearing today.

Sequins

To say sequins and sparkles are a big deal right now is an understatement.

Choose one sparkly item as the showpiece of your outfit, and pair it with matte fabrics and plain colours.

Pastels

Whether lilac, pink, lemon or duck egg blue, pastels have taken centre stage this season.

Try choosing one pastel colour and using it throughout your outfit, or pair a few different pastel colours together for a soft yet striking look.

Sheer

Transparency has made a comeback this season, and gives you the option of showing off multiple layers.

Layer a sheer top over a button down shirt for a smart work outfit, or wear a sheer skirt with a matching monochrome pants layer underneath.

Klopp Apologises for Fan Altercation

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has apologised after he reacted angrily to a Swansea fan during The Reds’ shock defeat on Monday night.

Swansea’s Alfie Mawson scored in the 40th minute, ending Liverpool’s 15-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Growing increasingly frustrated with his team’s performance, Klopp reacted to provocation from one of Swansea’s supporters midway through the second half.

According to Klopp, the fan had been loudly taunting him throughout the game. Klopp insists that he didn’t use abusive language, he merely angrily asked the fan to stop his taunts.

The 50-year-old said: “Sorry, I reacted one time, I remind myself I am a human being. It’s my fault as well, I shouldn’t have reacted.”

Klopp added that he is frustrated with his team’s performance, saying that they had already lost the game in the first half.

Swansea remain at the bottom of the log, while Liverpool are now in fourth place behind Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Uganda Brings Back Death Penalty

Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, intends to begin enforcing the death penalty.

While there are 278 people on death row, Uganda has not executed anyone in 13 years.

Museveni said that his “Christian background” has prevented him from going ahead with executions, but that he now regrets his leniency.

The 73-year-old president says that his refusal to put prisoners to death has been encouraging criminals, and that he is going to “revise a bit and hang a few”.

Human rights groups have expressed concern and alarm at Museveni’s words. Amnesty International said that resuming executions would be misguided, because there is no evidence linking the death penalty to a reduction in crime.

Museveni has responded by saying: “I saw some NGOs opposing the death sentence. In a pre-industrial society like ours removing death sentence is a recipe for chaos. Societies like the United Kingdom went through the industrial revolution 200 years ago. Here in Uganda and Africa we are dealing with pre-industrial societies.”

Museveni has been in power for three decades, and could potentially seek a sixth term in office in 2021 after signing a bill to remove the presidential age limit.

Alexis Sanchez Undergoes Medical

Alexis Sanchez arrived at Manchester United yesterday to undergo a medical examination, ahead of his expected transfer to the club.

Sanchez will move to The Red Devils, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan will transfer to Arsenal in a swap deal between the two clubs.

The Chilean international is set to become United’s best-paid player, with some reports putting his new salary at £400 000 per week.

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, and United manager, Jose Mourinho, both said they expected the deal between the Premier League rivals to go through.

Wenger said Sanchez was absent from the Arsenal squad on Saturday because he was close to completing a deal that has been in the making since United outbid Manchester City for the former Barcelona star.

An official announcement regarding the outcome of the deal is expected this week.

Sanchez has scored eight goals in 22 appearances for the Gunners this season, and Wenger has said that his impending departure has caused some instability among the team.

Wenger added: “I cannot understand anybody wanting to leave Arsenal. But in 30 years of doing transfers, you learn a lot about human beings. As a professional, it was perhaps his last contract at the top level and an important contract.”
